Podcasting: Career, Goal, Support, Visibility or Creative Outlet |

| | Allworth Press selects Elaine A. Clark to write VO for Podcasting |

Image this. It’s early morning in 2018, a year that was extra busy for me. I was working overtime to accomplish performance and production goals for hundreds of my students and clients before selling the Voice One Training division of Voice One in 2019, the business I founded and owned for 32-years, and moving my recording studio to a smaller space. I was also in the midst of a six-month job for Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) directing the speech translation app VoiceTra. Unexpectely, the New York publisher of my voice-over book, There’s Money Where Your Mouth Is, gives me a call. He tells me that the team met and selected me to write the first voice-over podcasting book! |

Advertising and Voice-Overs Merge with Podcasting |
I started my professional post-college career in radio sales and later switched to the advertising agency side as a media buyer and copywriter. While in the midst of a hundred hours of podcast research, I kept thinking about how I used to sell and buy ‘air time’.
While it’s own genre, podcasting shares a lot of similarities to radio and TV news, entertainment, and talk shows. The difference is that an individual or team can create whatever content they want, for however long or short a length of air time, and number of episodes.
🔘 Four basic streaming and broadcast audience expectations include: Engaging story. Organized content. Interesting format. Voice and visuals that draw you into the auditory world so the audience not only hears words but can see it, smell it, taste it, touch it, and imagine being there.

Horizontal vs. Vertical Formats |
How many episodes will the podcast support? Will it have a limited number of episodes or an endless resource base? How should the podcast be formatted? Deciding how far to drill down is based on two formats: Horizontal and Vertical. HORIZONTAL episode structure has a steady theme and familiar predictability.
VERTICAL episode programming features a variety of seemingly unrelated programs under the umbrella of a central brand or abstract message.
